- We present the results of Thuan & Gunn r CCD imaging observations of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) sample of emission-line galaxies (ELGs), selected by the presence of H{alpha} emission in low-resolution objective prism spectra. In this work we characterize photometrically and morphologically a total of 212 objects from the UCM survey. This Paper presents the observations and basic reductions, and lists a set of photometric parameters calculated for each UCM object. In addition, for the first time in a ELGs sample, we have determined the morphological classification of the objects using simultaneously five different criteria.

- Analysis of bulges to redshifts of up to z=1 have provided ambiguous results as to whether bulges as a class are old structures akin to elliptical galaxies or younger products of the evolution of their host disks. We aim to define a sample of intermediate-z disk galaxies harbouring central bulges, and a complementary sample of disk galaxies without measurable bulges. We intend to provide colour profiles for both samples, as well as measurements of nuclear, disk, and global colours, which may be used to constrain the relative ages of bulges and disks. We select a diameter-limited sample of galaxies in images from the HST/WFPC2 (Wide-Field Planetary Camera 2 at the Hubble Space Telescope) Groth Strip survey, which is divided into two subsamples of higher and lower inclination to assess the role of dust in the measured quantities. Mergers are visually identified and excluded. We take special care to control the pollution by ellipticals. The bulge sample is defined with a criterion based on nuclear surface brightness excess over the inward extrapolation of the exponential law fitted to the outer regions of the galaxies. We extract colour profiles on the semi-minor axis least affected by dust in the disk, and measure nuclear colours at 0.85kpc from the centre over those profiles. Disk colours are measured on major axis profiles; global colours are obtained from 2.6" diameter apertures. Colour transformations and K-corrections are calculated using SEDs covering bands UBVIJK, from the GOYA photometric survey. We obtain a parent sample containing 248 galaxies with known redshifts, spectroscopic or photometric, spanning 0.1<z<1.2. The bulge subsample comprises 54 galaxies (21.8% of the total), while the subsample with no measureable bulges is 55.2% of the total (137 galaxies). The remainder (23%) is composed of mergers. We list nuclear, disk, and global colours (observed and rest-frame) and magnitudes (apparent and absolute), as well as galaxy colour gradients for the samples with and without bulges, and make them available in electronic format. We also provide images, colour maps, plots of spectral energy distributions, major-axis surface brightness profiles, and minor-axis colour profiles for both samples.

- We present V and I CCD photometry of suspected low surface brightness dwarf galaxies detected in a survey covering ~2.4 deg^2^ around the central region of the Dorado group of galaxies. The low surface brightness galaxies were chosen based on their sizes and magnitudes at the limiting isophote of 26V{mu}. The selected galaxies have magnitudes brighter than V~20 (MV~-11 for an assumed distance to the group of 17.2 Mpc), with central surface brightnesses {mu}_0_>22.5 Vmag.arcsec^-2^, scale lengths h>2", and diameters >=14" at the limiting isophote. Using these criteria, we identified 69 dwarf galaxy candidates. Four of them are large very low surface brightness galaxies that were detected on a smoothed image, after masking high surface brightness objects. Monte Carlo simulations performed to estimate completeness, photometric uncertainties and to evaluate our ability to detect extended low surface brightness galaxies show that the completeness fraction is, on average, >80% for dwarf galaxies with -17<MV<-10.5 and 22.5<{mu}_0_<25.5 Vmag.arcsec^-2^, for the range of sizes considered by us (D>=14"). The V-I colors of the dwarf candidates vary from -0.3 to 2.3 with a peak on V-I=0.98, suggesting a range of different stellar populations in these galaxies. The projected surface density of the dwarf galaxies shows a concentration toward the group center similar in extent to that found around five X-ray groups and the elliptical galaxy NGC 1132 studied by Mulchaey & Zabludoff (1999ApJ...514..133M), suggesting that the dwarf galaxies in Dorado are probably physically associated with the overall potential well of the group.

- We present Johnson B CCD photometry for the whole sample of galaxies of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) Survey Lists I and II (Cat. <J/ApJS/95/387> and <J/ApJS/105/343>). They constitute a well-defined and complete sample of galaxies in the Local Universe with active star formation. The data refer to 191 S0 to Irr galaxies at an averaged redshift of 0.027, and complement the already published Gunn r, J and K photometries. (B-r) colours are also computed.

- We present Johnson B surface photometry for the UCM Survey galaxies. One-dimensional bulge-disk decomposition is attempted, discussing on fitting functions and computational procedures. The results from this decomposition, jointly with concentration indices and an asymmetry coefficient, are employed to study the morphological properties of these galaxies. We also compare our results with the previous morphological classification established using Gunn r imaging data and with other samples of galaxies. No major statistical differences in morphology are found between red and blue data, although some characteristics such as size and luminosity concentration vary. We find a correlation between luminosity and size. Several parameters are used to segregate the objects according to their morphological type.

- We present the new constraints on the cosmic optical background (COB) obtained from an analysis of the Pioneer 10/11 Imaging Photopolarimeter (IPP) data. After careful examination of data quality, the usable measurements free from the zodiacal light are integrated into sky maps at the blue (~0.44um) and red (~0.64um) band. Accurate starlight subtraction is achieved by referring to all-sky star catalogs and a Galactic stellar population synthesis model down to 32.0mag. We find that the residual light is separated into two components: one component shows a clear correlation with thermal 100um brightness, while another betrays a constant level in the lowest 100um brightness region. The presence of the second component is significant after all the uncertainties and possible residual light in the Galaxy are taken into account, and thus it most likely has the extragalactic origin (i.e., the COB).

- We present a detailed analysis of the radial distribution of dust properties in the SINGS sample, performed on a set of ultraviolet (UV), infrared (IR), and HI surface brightness profiles, combined with published molecular gas profiles and metallicity gradients. By applying physical dust models to our radial spectral energy distributions, we have derived radial profiles of the total dust mass surface density, the fraction of the total dust mass contributed by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and the intensity of the radiation field heating the grains.

- Smithsonian Hectospec Lensing Survey (SHELS) is a dense redshift survey covering a 4deg^2^ region to a limiting R=20.6. In the construction of the galaxy catalog and in the acquisition of spectroscopic targets, we paid careful attention to the survey completeness for lower surface brightness dwarf galaxies. Thus, although the survey covers a small area, it is a robust basis for computation of the slope of the faint end of the galaxy luminosity function to a limiting M_R_=-13.3+5logh. We calculate the faint-end slope in the R band for the subset of SHELS galaxies with redshifts in the range 0.02<=z<0.1, SHELS_0.1_. This sample contains 532 galaxies with R<20.6 and with a median surface brightness within the half-light radius of SB_50,R_=21.82mag/arcsec^2^. We used this sample to make one of the few direct measurements of the dependence of the faint end of the galaxy luminosity function on surface brightness. For the sample as a whole the faint-end slope, {alpha}=-1.31+/-0.04, is consistent with both the Blanton et al. analysis of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (2005ApJ...631..208B, 2005AJ....129.2562B) and the Liu et al. analysis of the COSMOS field (2008ApJ...672..198L). This consistency is impressive given the very different approaches of these three surveys. A magnitude-limited sample of 135 galaxies with optical spectroscopic redshifts with mean half-light surface brightness, SB_50,R_>=22.5mag/arcsec^2^ is unique to SHELS_0.1_. The faint-end slope is {alpha}_22.5_=-1.52+/-0.16. SHELS_0.1_ shows that lower surface brightness objects dominate the faint-end slope of the luminosity function in the field, underscoring the importance of surface brightness limits in evaluating measurements of the faint-end slope and its evolution.

Their absolute total JHK luminosities, the luminosities of disks and bulges, and the bulge-to-disk ratios were obtained by flux-calibrated 2-dimensional disk-bulge decompositions.

- The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) allows us to study the central surface brightness profiles of globular clusters at unprecedented detail. We have mined the HST archives to obtain 38 WFPC2 images of Galactic globular clusters with adequate exposure times and filters, which we use to measure their central structure.
